Before You Begin
Regardless of your printer brand, follow these universal preparation steps: unbox your printer, remove all protective materials and tape, install ink cartridges or toner, load paper into the tray, and connect the power cable.
HP Printer Installation
Wired Connection
- Connect the USB cable from the printer to your computer.
- Power on the printer.
- Visit hp.com/support and search for your printer model.
- Download the full feature driver for your operating system.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Test print to verify installation.
Network Connection
- Press the Wireless button on the printer.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the printer's display.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Note the printer's IP address from the network settings.
- On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Click Add a printer and search for your HP printer.
- Select it and click Add device.
Canon Printer Installation
Wired Connection
- Connect the USB cable to both the printer and computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Visit canon.com and navigate to Support.
- Enter your printer model number.
- Download the printer driver for your OS.
- Install the driver by running the downloaded file.
- Restart your computer after installation.
Network Connection
- Access the printer's menu and select Network Settings.
- Choose Wireless LAN Setup.
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Write down the assigned IP address.
- On your computer, download Canon's printer driver.
- During installation, select Network as the connection type.
- Enter the printer's IP address when prompted.
Epson Printer Installation
Wired Connection
- Connect the USB cable between printer and computer.
- Power on the printer.
- Visit epson.com/support.
- Search for your printer model.
- Download the appropriate driver for your operating system.
- Run the installer and complete the setup wizard.
Network Connection
- Press the Home button on the printer.
- Navigate to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Setup.
- Select your network and enter the password.
- Note the IP address displayed on the screen.
- Download Epson's driver from the support website.
- Choose Network connection during installation.
- Input the printer's IP address when requested.
Brother Printer Installation
Wired Connection
- Connect the USB cable to the printer and computer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Visit support.brother.com.
- Enter your printer model.
- Download the driver for your OS.
- Execute the installer and follow the prompts.
- Perform a test print.
Network Connection
- Press Menu on the printer.
- Select Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password.
- Record the IP address shown on the display.
- Download Brother's driver from their support site.
- Select Network during driver installation.
- Enter the printer's IP address as prompted.
Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues
Driver Not Found
If Windows can't find the driver automatically, visit the manufacturer's support website directly and download the driver manually. Ensure you select the correct operating system version.
Printer Not Detected
For USB connections, try a different USB port or cable. For network connections, ensure the printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. Restart both devices.
Installation Fails
Temporarily disable antivirus software during installation. Ensure you have administrator privileges. Restart your computer and try again.
Post-Installation Steps
After successful installation, print a test page to verify everything works correctly. Check the printer settings to adjust default options like paper size and print quality. Install any available firmware updates from the manufacturer's website.
